Sydney Olympic Park

Sydney Olympic Park, one of Business Events Sydney's members, is dedicated to environmentally and socially sustainable practices. The Park has committed to 'Master Plan 2030', an opportunity to establish a best practice example of sustainable urban development.

Sydney’s ‘green games’ during the 2000 Olympics were the catalyst to build Sydney Olympic Park, transforming a badly-degraded piece of land into a globally-recognised environmental showpiece. Sydney Olympic Park was in 2000, and remains today, a world-leader in environmentally sustainable facilities and venues.

The Park’s early achievements included:

  • Successfully restoring 160 hectares of degraded land
  • Creating one of the biggest urban parklands in Australia (425 hectares)
  • Building world-class venues and facilities with a focus on energy and water conservation, sustainable material selection, pollution control and waste management
  • Conserving and enhancing remnant wetlands, forest, native flora and fauna, including the endangered Green and Golden Bell Frog
  • Establishing Australia’s first large-scale urban water recycling system, saving about 850 million litres of drinking water a year
  • Installing extensive renewable energy across the Park
  • Developing environmental education, interpretation and research programs

Sydney Olympic Park now intends to build on this legacy. In 2001, the Sydney Olympic Park Authority Act established the Authority’s commitment to environmentally sustainable development. Environmental guidelines and a sustainability strategy inform the Park's operations.

And the Park’s current 'Master Plan 2030’ agenda will build on its existing initiatives in energy management, water management, green building design, ecological management and healthy lifestyle management.
