Ian Stuart

Business Events Consultant

“I was born in England where I completed my schooling and tertiary education before coming to Australia in 1974 to set up a publishing business.

“I have more than 25 years experience in the management and production of major conferences, exhibitions and special events across a wide range of professions. This has given me a unique insight into the demands of the industry as well as the challenges of winning a bid and bringing the whole event to a highly successful conclusion.

“I have been working with Business Events Sydney (BESydney) since 2006 on a special educational program designed to encourage researchers, academics and association executives to bring their international conferences to Sydney.

“I have also worked with other well known organisations. I was Joint Managing Director/Owner of ICMS Australasia Pty Ltd where I oversaw business development and provided hands on management for many high profile conferences, some with turnovers exceeding $8 million. These included the 13th World Congress on Information Technology and the NSW Premier’s Forum on Spinal Cord Injury and Conditions.

“Over the past 30 years I have served on the board of many different industry bodies such as the Australian Society of Association Executives, BESydney (15 years) and Meeting and Events Australia including two years as President.  I have chaired MEA’s annual conference, judged its annual Excellence Awards and conducted numerous training programs for people in the business events industry.

“I also work with community groups like Lifeline Australia Harbour to Hawkesbury Book Fair and the Easy Care Gardening program which supports the frail and elderly in maintaining their gardens.

“I love living in Sydney because it is the ideal place for me to enjoy my hobbies of cycling, tennis, golf, folk and blues music.”
