Beyond Tourism Benefits research project

Business Events Sydney's (BESydney) Beyond Tourism Benefits: Measuring the social legacy of business events research, demonstrates that the international norm to evaluate the lucrative business events sector in tourism terms alone, overlooks perhaps the most valuable legacies – the many educational, intellectual, trade and investment outcomes from business events.

The most recent research by BESydney quantitatively examines the extensive social, innovation and knowledge benefits of business events that have the power to drive productivity and the knowledge economy.

Lyn Lewis-Smith, Chief Executive Officer of BESydney comments, "Our industry has long struggled to measure the important legacy effects of hosting conferences and conventions. This research is a huge step in the right direction: we believe this is the first quantitative research examining this subject."

Building a global city through business events

On 6 June 2011, Business Events Sydney hosted an event specifically focusing on the whys and wherefores of bringing business events to Sydney. Guest speakers included Mr Rohit Talwar presenting the results of the Convention 2020 study, Professor Roy Green talking about Collaborating to Create Sydney's Knowledge-based Future, Mr Samuel Koo presenting Think Collaboration not Isolations and video links from Mr Martin Sirk from the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) and Mr Christian Mutschlechner from the Vienna Convention Bureau.
