Major international healthcare event arrives in Sydney

Business Events Sydney (BESydney), the organisation responsible for promoting Sydney as a business events destination, identifying new event opportunities and bringing these events to Sydney, announces today that a major international healthcare event will arrive on Sydney’s shores on Friday, 6 March.
The 25th ‘Fetus as a Patient’ International Congress will arrive in Sydney on Friday, marking the first time the Congress has come to Australia in its 25 year history.
This three day meeting is expected to attract 500 delegates from across the world, including both local and international health care professionals involved in the care of pregnant women and their babies and focuses on current developments and controversies in pre- and perinatal medicine.
Taking place at the Hilton Hotel, the event will also feature social functions, tours and harbour cruises that showcase Sydney as an international leisure destination of choice. The meeting is expected to bring more than $1.3 million into the local economy and will be managed by a Gold Member of BESydney, professional conference organiser ICMS Pty Ltd.
The bid to host the Congress was led by Doctor Andrew Ngu, Associate Professor Lachlan de Crespigny and Doctor Jon Hyett, and won in conjunction with BESydney.
"Being the 25th anniversary of the Congress, this weekend’s event will not only look toward future scientific and clinical developments but it will also review some of the major achievements made in the fields of pre- and perinatal medicine to date," said Dr Ngu.
Mr Jon Hutchison AM, Chief Executive Officer of BESydney welcomes the event to town.
"A number of factors played a key role in Sydney being named as host of the event. In addition to our business event expertise and well-established operations, Sydney was also recognised for its leadership in the health care industry and its rare blend of natural attributes," he said.
Sydney won the bid to host the event in July 2007.
